One
of the major changes is giving a more transparent and flexible approach
to fire safety design through the provision of additional fire
protection measures.For some years now, work has been undertaken to
consolidate and formalize a series of uniform standards for use
throughout Europe. Many of the ISO standards are currently undergoing
revision to align them with European standards.In brief, the following
is the current EN standards which have been formally issued and are now
in all member states of the EU.Over time it is anticipated that EN will
replace national standards in Europe such as BS,NBN,DIN etc.The new
European Norm(EN 1363-1366) will gradually replace British Standards,for
example BS476.
PROACTIVE
FIRE PROTECTION products and systems are tested by independently
approved testing authorities under standard test conditions. The fire
performance standard and terms most relevant to the materials and
elements of construction described in this handbook are as follows.
Hong
Kong has introduced a New Code of Practice on Fire Safety in
Buildings《Code of Practice for Fire Safety in Buildings 2011》 which came
into effect from 1 April 2012.
The
ability of a specimen of a separating element to contain a fire to
specified criteria for collapse, freedom from holes, cracks and
sustained flaming on the unexposed face.
The
ability of a specimen of a separating element to restrict the
temperature rise of the exposed face to below specified levels (140°mean
rise,180°maximum rise).
